In recent hearings at a local magistrates’ court, several individuals have been sentenced for a range of offences, including knife possession, criminal damage, and racially aggravated harassment.
JOSHUA NIYONGIRA, 25, of St Norbert Road in Nunhead, was sentenced to 21 weeks in jail after admitting to possessing a large black machete-style knife in Woolwich on August 9. The court heard that this was Niyongira’s second knife-related offence, leading to an immediate custodial sentence.
PHILBERT ISAACS, 59, of Plumstead Common Road, was jailed for 21 days after admitting to racially aggravated harassment, theft of olive oil from a Co-op, and assault in Deptford on August 25. His repeated offences led to his custodial sentence.

SIDIQUE GOVINDEN, 31, of no fixed abode in Sidcup, was sentenced to six months in prison after admitting to possessing a lock knife and engaging in racially aggravated harassment at an M&S store on August 4. Govinden’s behaviour was deemed serious, leading to his jail term.
