Murder Investigation Launched After Man Found Dead in Fallowfield

A murder investigation is underway following the discovery of a man’s body on Platt Lane. The victim, identified as 64-year-old Fintan McDwyer, was found dead yesterday morning.

Emergency services responded to a call at approximately 8:50 a.m. on Monday, July 1, 2024.

Upon arrival, they pronounced McDwyer deceased at the scene. Preliminary inquiries indicate that a violent assault occurred within the property, resulting in serious and fatal injuries to the victim’s face and neck, inflicted by a sharp instrument.

Detective Chief Inspector Gina Brennand, leading the Major Incident Team, stated, “While the investigation is still in its early stages, we are diligently piecing together a timeline of events leading up to Fintan’s tragic death. Our thoughts are with his family during this difficult time.”

Authorities urge anyone with relevant information to come forward, underscoring that even seemingly minor details could be crucial to advancing the investigation. Specifically, they are appealing to anyone who noticed suspicious activity in the Platt Lane area between 7 p.m. on Saturday, June 29, and the morning of Monday, July 1, 2024, to contact Greater Manchester Police at 0161 856 5415 (quoting log 695 1/7/24).
