The Homicide and Major Enquiry Team in Huddersfield has identified the victim of a fatal assault that occurred in the early hours of Saturday, July 15. The victim has been named as 23-year-old Jake Rainton from Huddersfield.

Jake tragically succumbed to head injuries sustained during an assault outside the Revolution Bar on Cross Church Street. He passed away on Sunday afternoon. The incident has now been classified as a murder investigation.

Two males, aged 24 and 26, are currently in police custody, having been arrested on suspicion of Jake’s murder. Detectives are urging anyone with information related to the incident to come forward. Information can also be provided anonymously to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

The assault took place shortly before 4 am on Saturday, and police were alerted by the ambulance service. When officers arrived at the scene, they found Jake unconscious and immediately arranged for him to be taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Detective Inspector Jodie Hayes, leading the investigation, emphasized the importance of witness testimony and information that can aid the ongoing inquiries. She urged anyone who witnessed the assault or has pertinent information to come forward and speak to the police.

The Homicide and Major Enquiry Team is committed to uncovering the circumstances surrounding this tragic incident and bringing those responsible to justice. The scene at Cross Church Street has been cordoned off for forensic examination.
