Caitano Azavedo, 40, has been convicted of raping a woman after dragging her into a secluded area in Aberdeen.

Attack Details Revealed at Edinburgh Trial

Azavedo, a Portuguese national, denied the charges of assault and rape that took place on October 22, 2023. The attacks happened at King Street and later in a field near the Aberdeen Sports Village. During the trial at the High Court in Edinburgh, the jury heard how he grabbed the victim’s hand, pulled her away to a quiet spot, then molested and raped her.

Judge Refuses Bail, Orders Report Ahead of Sentencing

After the guilty verdict, Azavedo’s legal team requested bail ahead of his sentencing next month. Judge Alistair Watson rejected the plea and remanded Azavedo in custody. The judge also called for a background report to prepare for sentencing, set for January 9 at the High Court in Glasgow.

Azavedo, who followed proceedings with an interpreter, has now been placed on the sex offenders’ register.
