Caitano Azavedo, 40, was convicted of raping a woman after dragging her into a secluded spot in Aberdeen. The shocking attack unfolded on October 22, 2023.

Grim Details of the Attack Emerge at Edinburgh Trial

Azavedo, a Portuguese national, denied the assault and rape charges during his trial at Edinburgh’s High Court. But the jury heard how he grabbed the victim’s hand on King Street, pulled her to a quiet field near Aberdeen Sports Village, and then molested and raped her.

Judge Refuses Bail and Orders Report Before Sentencing

Despite Azavedo’s legal team asking for bail, Judge Alistair Watson slammed the door shut. The convicted man will remain in custody ahead of his sentencing on January 9 at Glasgow’s High Court. The judge also ordered a background report to help with sentencing decisions.

Azavedo, who needed an interpreter during the trial, has been added to the sex offenders’ register.
