Terrifying Takeaway Encounter
Daniella Carter-Wells thought she was just grabbing her dinner. Instead, she became the victim of a horrific sexual assault. On the night of July 29, 2022, at 10pm, Daniella answered her door expecting a takeaway. But Mahbubar Rahman, a former private school teacher and co-owner of Royston Tandoori, forced his way in.
“He barged in, pushed me to the floor, dragged me into the bedroom, pinned me down and tore off my clothes,” Daniella recalled. “I just froze. I thought he was going to kill me.”
Half-Hour Horror Ends Only When Neighbours Interrupt
The attack lasted nearly 30 minutes and only stopped when neighbours spooked Rahman. They had seen him come and go, helping police identify him. Despite denying all charges, Rahman was released on bail — a move Daniella called “disgusting.”
“They had to let him go by law, but I find that disgusting. It put me in danger,” she said. Daniella later faced her attacker face-to-face in a Tesco store on Royston High Street.
Stalker Nightmare Before the Assault
Daniella fears Rahman was stalking her in the weeks before the attack. “I don’t know him — he’s a stranger — but he knew everything about me,” she said.
Justice Served in Court
Rahman was found guilty of assault by penetration and two counts of sexual assault at Peterborough Crown Court in September. He was sentenced to five years and nine months in jail, plus an additional three years on licence.
This case highlights the dangers lurking behind closed doors, even from those we think we can trust.
