The collision happened on the eastbound carriageway near Billericay/Noak Bridge junctions near Basildon, Essex, just before 6 on Monday, November 9.
Drivers have reported being stuck in miles of jams in both directions with the incident affecting traffic between London and Southend.
The eastbound carriageway has been shut by emergency services with slow traffic being caused by rubberneckers
