A person has sadly died following a medical emergency on High Road in Ilford this afternoon (Tuesday, April 23), prompting a large emergency services response and road closures in the area.
At least two police cars and six London Ambulance Service (LAS) vehicles were spotted at the scene near Sainsbury’s Local, where the incident unfolded just before 1pm.
Emergency services were called at 12.46pm after receiving reports of a person unwell. Despite the rapid arrival of multiple medical teams, including an ambulance crew, a clinical team manager, a paramedic in a fast response car and an incident response officer, the patient was pronounced dead at the scene.
The area outside the Sainsbury’s store has been cordoned off by police, with several bystanders witnessing the emergency unfold on the busy stretch of High Road.
A spokesperson for the London Ambulance Service said:
“We were called at 12.46pm today (23 April) to reports of a person unwell on High Road, Ilford.
We sent resources to the scene, including an ambulance crew, a clinical team manager, a paramedic in a fast response car and an incident response officer.
Very sadly, despite the best efforts of our crews, a patient was pronounced dead at the scene.”
The identity of the deceased has not yet been confirmed, and police have not stated whether the death is being treated as suspicious. Officers remain at the scene to assist with the investigation and manage the cordon.
Traffic disruptions were reported in the area throughout the afternoon as the road remained partially closed while emergency services worked.
