A brutal and unprovoked knife attack in Manchester has put thug Blane Latouche behind bars. The 30-year-old, who has no fixed address, savagely stabbed his friend Charles O’Connor, 27, leaving him fighting for his life and ultimately costing him his right arm.
Friend Stabbed 11 Times in Manchester Car Park Horror
The terrifying assault happened in the early hours of July 2, 2024, in a Blackley car park on Ainsbrook Avenue. The two men had been driving around, inhaling nitrous oxide balloons with Charles’s girlfriend. Without warning, Latouche pulled a knife from nowhere, forced Charles into the car’s front seat, and stabbed him 11 times:
- 5 times in the upper right arm
- 2 times in the right thigh
- 2 times under the armpit
- 1 time in the left hand
Despite desperate pleas, Latouche showed no mercy. Charles collapsed, bleeding heavily, as Latouche fled the scene. Charles was rushed to hospital, where after a grueling 13-month battle, his right arm had to be amputated. Now living with carers, Charles says he still can’t fathom why his friend turned on him.
“I thought I was going to die. Knowing it was someone I trusted made it worse.” – Charles O’Connor
Judge Brands Latouche “Dangerous” Thug After “Senseless” Attack
Latouche tried to cover his tracks by dumping the knife, Charles’s phone, and blood-soaked clothes. Police found blood on his clothing and discovered two weapons at his home, including a machete hidden in his bed.
At Manchester Crown Court on March 19, 2025, Judge Hilary Manley tore into the attack as “completely senseless and unprovoked” against a “defenceless person crammed in a confined space.” Latouche was labelled a “dangerous” offender. He was cleared of attempted murder but pleaded guilty to wounding with intent and possession of a bladed weapon.
Dark Past, Damning Sentence: Latouche’s Road to Jail
Despite coming from a respectable family, Latouche’s dark past emerged during sentencing: childhood trauma, a spiralling mental health breakdown with hallucinations since age 18, worsened by drug use and paranoia.
In a remorseful letter, Latouche admitted:
“I cannot fully express how devastated I feel for what I have done.”
He was jailed for eight years, with an additional two years on extended licence. While Charles’s life is shattered forever, Latouche will pay the price for his savage betrayal behind bars.
