Police are trying to trace a group of drone pilots after investigators said aerial footage captured over Lacock Abbey could contain important evidence connected to the unexplained death of a woman.
Wiltshire Police want to speak to a group of males who were seen operating a drone over Lacock Abbey on Thursday, 13 August, several hours before the woman’s body was discovered.
The woman, aged in her 40s, was found near the River Avon at around 11pm, prompting an investigation into the circumstances surrounding her death.
Detectives believe the drone was being flown over the Lacock Abbey area between 7pm and 9pm.
Although police have stressed that the drone operators are being sought as potential witnesses rather than suspects, investigators want to establish whether their aircraft inadvertently recorded anything that could assist the inquiry.
A Wiltshire Police spokesperson said:
“Officers are looking to speak to a group of males seen flying a drone over Lacock Abbey on 13th August as part of an unrelated, ongoing investigation.
“They are believed to have been flying the drone between 7pm and 9pm.
“We are keen to speak with them to see if any footage captured could assist with the investigation.”
The force has not disclosed precisely what investigators hope the footage might show.
Lacock Abbey is also situated approximately half a mile from Ray Mill House in Reybridge, the private Wiltshire home of Queen Camilla.
There is no suggestion the drone flight or the woman’s death has any connection with Queen Camilla or her property.
Anyone who was responsible for the drone flight, or who knows who was operating the aircraft, is being urged to contact Wiltshire Police on 101, quoting reference 54260098506.
The investigation into the woman’s death remains ongoing.
