Firefighters and control room staff of the Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Service (TWFRS) have been highly praised for their rapid and effective response to a significant pub fire in Sunderland’s Silksworth Lane.

Responding to an emergency call at 00:42 am on Wednesday, the first TWFRS crews arrived on the scene within just four minutes. They found the pub well alight, indicating a substantial blaze.
