Speeding Biker Jailed After Deadly Race Ends in Tragedy
Racing on Fox Way Ends in Fatal Crash
Aaron Barrett, 32, has been locked up for 22 months following a fatal high-speed race in Portslade. The motorcyclist was spotted tearing through Fox Way in April last year, pushing beyond 80 mph in a 30 mph zone while battling another rider.
Other Rider Dies After Horrific Collision
Witnesses described the scene as “crazy,” with Barrett and a 33-year-old man from Southwick, Brighton, seemingly racing. The other rider smashed into an oncoming car and tragically died at the scene. Barrett was seriously hurt and arrested from hospital while recovering.
Barrett Already Banned and Over Legal Drug Limit
At Lewes Crown Court on April 17, Barrett pleaded guilty to dangerous driving. He was disqualified from driving at the time, having previous offences dating back to October 2020. Tests also showed he had a blood THC level above the legal limit.
Sentenced for Dangerous Driving, Facing Further Inquest
Barrett received a four-year, eight-month driving ban alongside his prison term. Witnesses told court how his riding showed “no consideration for anyone else” on a busy road at 4:30 pm on April 16. Sussex Police highlighted the verdict as a victory for road safety. An inquest into the fatal crash is set for June.
