Two London men locked up over brutal kidnap and savage beating in Colchester
Violent Kidnap Ends in Hospital
Carlos Reich, 26, and Ishmail Menevili, 29, both from Lower Edmonton, London, have been jailed for a terrifying kidnap and assault in Colchester. Reich received five years and two months, while Menevili was sentenced to four years and five months after pleading guilty at Ipswich Crown Court.
The nightmare unfolded on Wednesday 8 January 2020 when a dog walker spotted a man being forced into a pickup truck on Homefield Road. The truck sped off, sparking a police hunt.
Beaten, Stripped, and Left for Dead
The victim, a man in his 30s, was later found naked and covered in blood at Elm Close. He revealed he had arranged to meet Reich and Menevili but had no money to pay them. The three got into the pickup, and the victim was told to deliver a drug package. Seizing a chance, he tried to escape.
In response, Reich and Menevili terrorised a nearby house, threatening the occupant in a desperate search. Failing to find their target, they caught the victim, beating him badly and forcing him back into the vehicle.
He was driven back to Elm Close, beaten again, and left without clothes. The victim suffered broken ribs, a punctured lung, and extensive bruising, requiring hospital treatment.
Quick Police Action Snaps Up Attackers
The Serious and Organised Crime Unit swiftly acted. Menevili was jailed after his arrest on 11 February, and Reich was caught on 19 February 2020. Both men showed brutal disregard for human life in their violent spree.
Detective Superintendent Slams Attackers
“The perpetrators of this offence have shown themselves to be violent and they showed no mercy in attacking the victim after he refused to do what they wanted to do,” said Detective Superintendent Lee Morton.
“They valued the drugs over a person and traumatised an innocent occupant with threats in their own home. It’s only right they’ve been jailed for this terrible attack.”
