Police have seized sound equipment after breaking up an unauthorised music event attended by up to 150 people in South Gloucestershire.

Officers were called to an area off Marshwall Lane, near Almondsbury and Tockington, at around 3.40pm on Saturday following reports of an unlicensed gathering.

Avon and Somerset Police said between 100 and 150 people were already at the site when officers arrived, while local roads had become partially blocked by vehicles.

Police also received information suggesting further people were travelling to the event.

The music was switched off shortly after 5pm, and officers issued a dispersal notice requiring those attending to leave the area.

By around 7pm, the majority of people had left.

Sound equipment being used at the gathering was seized by police on the grounds of public nuisance, and the force said further enquiries would follow.

Police thanked members of the public who alerted them to the event, saying the early information allowed officers to intervene before the gathering continued into the night.

The force warned that unauthorised music events can cause significant disruption to nearby communities and potentially place those attending at risk because gatherings can take place at unsuitable locations without appropriate safety measures.

Residents are being encouraged to report signs that an unauthorised event may be being organised, including events promoted online, vehicles arriving with sound equipment or large numbers of people gathering at unusual locations.
