One person has died after a tour bus carrying members of American rock band Buckcherry was involved in a multi-vehicle crash in South Carolina.
The collision happened on Interstate 26 in Spartanburg County at around 2am on Friday, 21 August, near mile marker 31.
Buckcherry confirmed that its tour bus had been involved in the crash and said all members of the band and touring crew were safe and unharmed.
The band said authorities had confirmed that a collision which occurred ahead of their bus resulted in a fatality.
South Carolina Highway Patrol said the incident involved a pedestrian on the eastbound carriageway of I-26. Local reports said the crash led to all eastbound lanes being closed while emergency crews dealt with the scene.
According to reports, a driver involved in an earlier collision got out of their vehicle and was subsequently struck in the roadway by a Toyota sedan.
The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene.
Authorities have not yet released the identity of the victim, and the exact circumstances surrounding the involvement of Buckcherry’s tour bus have not been disclosed.
In a statement, the band said:
“We are extremely grateful to report that all members of Buckcherry and our touring crew are safe and unharmed.”
They added:
“Our thoughts and deepest condolences are with the family and loved ones of the person who lost their life.”
Buckcherry, whose line-up includes frontman Josh Todd, had been travelling as part of its current US tour.
The band’s planned performance in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, was expected to continue as scheduled following the crash.
An investigation into the fatal collision remains ongoing.
