Woman Found Guilty of Manslaughter After Fatal Kingstanding Motorbike Crash
A woman has been found guilty of manslaughter following a tragic motorbike collision in Kingstanding last May that left a man dead.
High-Speed Chase Ends in Tragedy on Kings Road
Thomas Maguire, 30, was riding his motorbike along Kings Road on 18 May when Kerry Fair, 39, sped after him in a car. Fair believed Thomas had stolen the bike from her daughter’s boyfriend earlier that day.
Just moments before the crash, Fair was caught on camera driving her Ford Focus at a reckless 76 to 86 mph in a 30 mph zone during the pursuit.
Crash Leaves Thomas Critically Injured—Fair Flees Scene
Fair’s car struck Thomas, knocking him off the bike. She then abandoned the Ford Focus on the roadside, engine running and steering lock engaged, before fleeing the scene.
Thomas was rushed to hospital by friends and remained in critical condition for three weeks before succumbing to his injuries on 9 June.
Fair Arrested and Found Guilty at Birmingham Crown Court
Fair’s wallet was found in the front door pocket of the abandoned car, leading to her arrest shortly after the incident.
Representing Parkeston Crescent, Kingstanding, Fair was found guilty at Birmingham Crown Court on 7 March.
“At the speed she was travelling, at the very least she was reckless to the fact Thomas would be injured as a result of her actions that night,” said Detective Inspector Michelle Thurgood from the Homicide Team.
“Had Fair applied emergency braking when she realised she was gaining rapidly on the motorbike, the collision could have been completely avoided, which inevitably could have prevented Thomas from being injured.”
“Our thoughts remain with the family of Thomas, and I hope today’s verdict can bring them some closure.”
Fair is set to be sentenced on Tuesday 14 March.
