London Cops Battle Chaos After 7500 Emergency Calls in Just One Night
“Could you? Would you?” That’s the question tough London police officers face every day – and last night was no different.
Leading a stellar team, the officer in charge revealed they handled a whopping 7,501 emergency calls, 5,335 non-emergency calls, and over 1,000 online crime reports within 24 hours. Each call came from terrified Londoners desperate for help.
Officers Pulled from Local Boroughs to Tackle Unlicensed Raves
Despite repeated warnings against organising unlicensed music events due to COVID risks and violence, several raves went ahead across the capital. To control the chaos, more than 600 officers were yanked from their usual posts, with days off cancelled and shifts shuffled.
“There’s no magic box of officers,” the commander stressed. “Taking them from local communities strains our resources – but it’s what’s needed.”
Violence Erupts on Woodberry Down Estate
One hotspot was the Woodberry Down Estate in N4, where cops faced crowds of 200 to 300 youths fighting violently and smashing property. Over 30 panic calls came from residents too scared to step outside their homes.
The officer shared harrowing bodycam footage from the scene, asking, “Could you or would you want to do their job?”
“I want to thank the residents who trusted us and called for help. And to my colleagues who charge towards danger when most of us would run the other way – thank you.”
Brave London police proved once again they’re the frontline between peace and pandemonium – but it’s a battle they fight with limited resources and limitless courage.
