Holly Newton, 15, was killed in the Priestpopple area of Hexham around 5.10 p.m. on Friday and died in hospital.
A 16-year-old boy was also taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The teen accused of murder has also been charged with attempted murder and possession of an offensive weapon.
The male, who cannot be identified for legal reasons, is scheduled to appear before Newcastle magistrates.
