Man Guilty of Manslaughter After Stabbing His Mum to Death
Rick Parker, 42, admitted manslaughter after fatally stabbing his mother, Helen Harrison, at their Market Weighton home in March 2023. Minutes after the brutal attack, he called 999, saying, “there is a woman who has been badly injured.”
Violence Strikes Family Twice in Weeks
Just weeks before the deadly stabbing, Parker attacked his stepfather on 19 February 2023. He headbutted and punched the man, leaving him with facial injuries. Parker also admitted to actual bodily harm in that earlier assault. Both cases were investigated together.
Mental Health Crisis at Heart of Crime
Initially charged with murder, Parker was deemed mentally unwell and unfit to plead. After almost a year in a secure psychiatric hospital, experts found he had diminished responsibility during the stabbing, leading to the murder charge being dropped to manslaughter.
Sentencing on Hold as Parker Stays in Secure Care
A February 2024 trial confirmed Parker’s role in both violent attacks. The court issued a restricted hospital order, keeping him in psychiatric care until further medical and legal reviews. Parker pleaded guilty via video link at Hull Crown Court on 3 March 2026 and will be sentenced on 9 April 2026.
