A Bristol man has been locked up and slapped with a decade-long restraining order after admitting to terrifying abuse.

Ali Abbas’s Reign of Control

Ali Abbas, 27, from Walton Street, Easton, Bristol, was sentenced to 38 months behind bars at Salisbury Crown Court on Thursday (2 April). He pleaded guilty to coercive control, two counts of strangulation, and breaching a suspended sentence. During their relationship, Abbas kept a tight tab on his victim. He snooped on her phone, dictated who she could speak to, and even tried to control her wardrobe choices.

Harassment Escalated After Break-Up

Once the relationship ended, Abbas’s abuse intensified. He bombarded the victim with calls and messages, turned up uninvited at her workplace, and hacked into her social media accounts. Not stopping there, he created fake profiles just to reach her again.

Bravery Leads to Justice

In a chilling display of violence, Abbas strangled the victim twice last year. Thanks to her courage in coming forward, the police charged him with multiple offences. Now Abbas faces jail time and a 10-year restraining order to keep him away for good.
