Brutal Murder of Dr Gary Jenkins Sees Trio Jailed for Life
Dr Gary Jenkins, 54, was viciously attacked in the early hours of July 20, 2021. He tragically died two weeks later at the University Hospital of Wales on August 5.
Life Behind Bars for Killers
Jason Edwards, 25, Lee William Strickland, 36, and Dionne Timms-Williams, 17, have all been handed life sentences at Cardiff Crown Court. Edwards and Strickland face a minimum of 33 years each, while Timms-Williams must serve at least 18 years.
From Manslaughter to Murder Conviction
All three initially pleaded guilty to manslaughter, robbery, and assault but denied murdering Dr Jenkins. After a trial at Merthyr Crown Court in February 2022, they were found guilty of murder.
Investigator Speaks Out
“We acknowledge the significant sentences given to the three defendants today, which reflect the homophobic and murder-for-gain nature of the awful attack upon Dr Jenkins,” said Detective Inspector Stuart Wales.
“No sentence, regardless of length, can replace the pain Dr Jenkins’ family are feeling. I hope these sentences bring them some comfort and help them rebuild their lives. Our thoughts will always be with them.”
