Harvey Smithson, of Park Court, North Walsham appeared at Norwich Crown Court on Friday 4 November after pleading guilty to robbery at an earlier hearing.
It relates to an incident that happened on the afternoon of 24 March 2022 where Smithson followed the victim, aged in their late 70s, to their home address in Norwich and waited for them to unlock their door before forcing them inside. He then continued to grab them by the neck and punch them in the face, breaking their glasses as a result. He then proceeded to steal the victim’s bag before making off from the scene.
Smithson was identified forensically and arrested the following day and taken to Wymondham Police Investigation Centre for questioning.
Smithson received an eight-year sentence which is made up of five years in prison with an extended three years on license.
Investigating Officer DC Andrew Collinson said: “This was a deeply distressing ordeal for the victim and their immediate family and has had a huge impact on their life. We hope the fact we have secured this conviction will give them some closure.
“I would like to commend the victim for their bravery and cooperation and to their family who have supported them throughout this entire investigation.”
