Thug Locked Elderly Victim Inside Home Before Brutal Robbery
Harvey Smithson, from Park Court, North Walsham, faced justice at Norwich Crown Court on Friday, 4 November. He pleaded guilty to a violent robbery that shocked the local community.
Horrific Attack on 70s Victim
The terrifying incident occurred on 24 March 2022. Smithson stalked his victim, a person in their late 70s, all the way to their Norwich home. He waited as they unlocked the door, then forced his way inside. The attacker grabbed the elderly victim by the neck and punched them in the face, shattering their glasses.
He didn’t stop there. Smithson snatched the victim’s bag before making a quick getaway.
Quick Arrest After Forensic Breakthrough
Police identified Smithson through forensic evidence and arrested him the very next day. He was taken to Wymondham Police Investigation Centre for questioning.
Justice Served: Eight-Year Sentence
Smithson was handed a tough eight-year sentence: five years behind bars plus an extended three years on licence.
“This was a deeply distressing ordeal for the victim and their loved ones, shaking their lives to the core,” said Investigating Officer DC Andrew Collinson.
“We hope securing this conviction brings some closure. I commend the victim for their bravery and cooperation and thank their family for their unwavering support throughout the investigation.”
