Quick-Thinking Staff Save Island Chip Shop from Devastating Fire
A fast response by fire crews and quick-witted staff prevented disaster at a popular Isle of Wight chip shop this evening. Smoke poured from the front door, sparking a full-blown emergency response just after 6pm.
Fire Crews Race to Scene
Three fire engines, an aerial ladder platform, and a command unit were rushed to the chip shop as flames spread. The blaze is believed to have started in one of the kitchen fryers before climbing through the ducting.
Staff Acted Swiftly to Isolate Gas
Duty Manager Graham Orchard praised the team on site for their quick action. “The staff did all the right things, including shutting off the gas supply before we arrived,” he said. The shop was occupied at the time, but luckily no one was injured or needed rescuing.
Damage Limited to Empty Flats Above
Smoke caused damage to two properties above the shop, but these were reportedly empty at the time. Fire crews used thermal imaging cameras to thoroughly check the upper floors for any hidden flare-ups. The fire is now under control and nearly extinguished.
“We are making sure there are no unseen hotspots,” said a fire service spokesperson. The swift response prevented a potentially devastating blaze from turning into a full-scale disaster.
