An 18-year-old man has been arrested after police in Herne Bay recovered a suspected stolen moped in the early hours of Tuesday, January 21, 2025.
Officers were on duty in Bullockstone Road when they observed a moped being driven with faulty rear lights and a damaged numberplate. Upon stopping the vehicle, police found that the rider did not have a key for the moped and was unable to provide any details regarding the bike’s ownership.
A search of the scene also led to the discovery of cannabis. Further inquiries revealed that the numberplate on the moped had been reported as stolen from another vehicle.
The 18-year-old man, from Canterbury, was arrested on suspicion of several offences, including taking a vehicle without consent, theft, driving offences, and possession of drugs. He was taken into custody and later bailed as investigations continue into the recovered moped and the associated offences.
Police have praised the swift action of the officers involved and are continuing to make inquiries to gather further evidence. The case remains under investigation.
