Bus driver arrested after Watling Street Bexleyheath crash

A bus driver has been arrested following a collision in Bexleyheath that left two children injured. The incident occurred on Watling Street near Halcot Avenue at 9:05 am on August 3.

Incident Details

Emergency services were called to the scene, where a nine-year-old girl and a five-year-old boy were found injured. Both children were taken to the hospital. The girl remains in a life-threatening condition, while the boy was taken as a precaution and is expected to recover.

The children, who are siblings, were accompanied by a family member at the time of the crash.

Arrest and Charges

Today, the Metropolitan Police confirmed the arrest of the bus driver. He was detained on suspicion of causing serious injury through dangerous driving and drug-driving. He is currently in police custody.

Police Statement

A spokesperson for the Metropolitan Police provided the following statement:

“At 09:05 hrs on Saturday, 3 August, police were called to a bus in collision with two children on Watling Street near the junction with Halcot Avenue, Bexleyheath.

“A nine-year-old girl was taken to hospital by ambulance. Her injuries are being treated as life-threatening.

“A five-year-old boy was taken to hospital as a precaution.

“The children are siblings who were with a family member at the time of the collision.

“Officers are providing support to their family.

“The male driver of the bus was arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury through dangerous driving and drug-driving.

“He remains in police custody.

“Any witnesses to the collision who are yet to speak with police are asked to call 101 quoting reference 2309/03Aug.”
