Disgraced Met Officer David Carrick Guilty of Abuse Dating Back to the 1980s

David Carrick, the former Metropolitan Police firearms officer turned sex offender, has been found guilty of sexually abusing a 12-year-old girl nearly four decades ago. The shocking verdict follows the discovery of a 1990 confession letter in which Carrick admitted his crimes to his mother. Yet, despite this chilling admission, police failed to act at the time. Now 50 and already serving 36 life sentences for 71 offences, Carrick faces fresh charges including multiple indecent assaults on the child, as well as new rape and abuse allegations from another victim.

Chilling Confession Ignored as Abuse Went Unchecked

On November 18, 2025, Southwark Crown Court ruled Carrick sexually assaulted the girl between 1989 and 1990. He reportedly covered her mouth and trapped her against furniture during the attacks. Prosecutors unveiled the devastating 1990 letter revealing Carrick’s own words:

“The girl ‘is not crazy’… ‘It was true but I stopped about four months ago,’” Carrick confessed. “I know how [she] must feel. That’s why I stopped and promised I would never go near her again and I have kept that promise.”

The letter was discovered in medical records but Carrick claimed it was forged during his trial. The victim, now grown, told the court she feared what Carrick might do once he became a police officer.

“When I heard he was a Metropolitan Police officer, the words I have always used were: ‘God help anyone with him with a warrant card,’” she said.

More Victims Expose Shocking Abuse of Power

The jury also convicted Carrick of additional crimes involving another victim he met in 2014 through a dating app. Once charming, Carrick’s mask slipped into years of brutal abuse, including:

  • Two counts of rape
  • One count of sexual assault
  • One count of coercive and controlling behaviour

The victim described cocky Carrick turning violent — throttling, kicking, and inflicting repeated sexual violence. Carrick refused to testify, maintained outright denials, and insisted his confession letter was fake.

System Failure Allowed Armed Predator to Operate for 20 Years

Worse still, Carrick’s police career ran from 2001 to 2021, during which he carried firearms in the elite parliamentary and diplomatic protection unit. Despite 14 complaints spanning rape and domestic abuse across multiple police forces, Carrick kept his weapon clearance and stayed on duty.

Police insiders even nicknamed him “Bastard Dave” — a grim warning that was ignored. Neither a 1990 confession nor a 2000 burglary probe into theft of a former girlfriend’s underwear prevented his rise through police ranks.

The scandal has sparked fury online, with #Carrick trending as the public blasts police “cover-ups” and institutional misogyny exposed by Baroness Casey’s 2023 report.

Justice Continues as Carrick Awaits Final Sentence

Currently held at HMP Frankland, Carrick was handed 36 life sentences in February 2023. The new guilty verdicts lengthen the judge’s promise of whole life terms if further victims emerge.

Ms Justice McGowan will decide Carrick’s ultimate sentence in December 2025. Prosecutors are expected to demand the harshest possible tariff.

Victim support groups remain active, aiding survivors grappling with trauma and institutional failure. With the full scale of Carrick’s offences still unfolding, this nightmare exposes catastrophic flaws in police vetting and oversight — allowing one of Britain’s worst rapist officers to roam free with a gun for two decades.
