Holly Newton, 15, Of Haltwhistle, Has Been Identified As The 15-year-old Girl Who Died As A Result Of An Assault In Hexham

The ambulance service alerted police shortly after 5.10 p.m. on Friday to a report of a teenage boy and girl being injured in the Priestpopple area of the town centre.
When emergency personnel arrived on the scene, they discovered that the boy and girl, ages 16 and 15, had suffered serious injuries consistent with being caused by a bladed article.
They were both taken to the hospital, where the girl died despite the best efforts of hospital staff. The injured boy is still in a stable condition in the hospital.
Another 16-year-old male was arrested on suspicion of assault and, later, murder.
He was later charged with murder, attempted murder, and carrying an offensive weapon. The boy, who cannot be identified for legal reasons, is due to appear before Newcastle magistrates on Monday.
Northumbria Police said in a statement, “Our thoughts are with both families involved and their loved ones as we continue to support them in any way we can.
The investigation is still ongoing, and we would like to thank the people of Hexham – and beyond – for their assistance and support.
“Officers will remain in the area over the coming days, and we would encourage anyone with concerns to speak directly with them.” “While our investigations continue, we believe all those involved are known to each other and there is no wider risk to the public.”
“We would also remind people that the person who has been charged is under the age of 18, is legally entitled to anonymity, and must not be named or identified.”
