Cleckheaton Man Jailed for Sex Crimes Against Vulnerable Teenage Girl
A 31-year-old man from Cleckheaton has been locked up for four years after admitting to serious sexual offences against a vulnerable teenage girl.
Lightning-Fast Justice After Shocking Crimes
Stuart Murgatroyd pleaded guilty to three counts of sexual activity with a child at a Kirklees address on 11 May 2025. The victim and her family immediately reported the offences to police the same day. Officers arrested Murgatroyd within hours.
He was swiftly charged and appeared at Leeds Magistrates’ Court just two days later. His guilty plea came at Leeds Crown Court on 22 September. The Judge sentenced him to four years in prison on 27 November.
Police Praise Victim’s Courage
“Murgatroyd took advantage of a vulnerable girl and committed serious sexual offences against her,” said Detective Constable Paul Campbell from the Kirklees Child Safeguarding Unit.
“We welcome his guilty plea, which spared her the ordeal of a trial, but the evidence was strong, leaving him little choice.”
“The victim and her family acted with great courage by reporting this quickly. Their swift action ensured a dangerous predator was taken off the streets without delay.”
“We understand how difficult it is for victims to come forward, but their bravery helps bring offenders like Murgatroyd to justice.”
Sex Offender Register on Release
On leaving prison, Murgatroyd will be required to sign the Sex Offenders Register, ensuring authorities keep track of his movements.
