A 21-year-old has been slammed with a four-year jail sentence after stabbing a man in Stoke-on-Trent. Mongameli Nyathi, from Featherstone, pleaded guilty to wounding with intent at Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court on Friday, 27 February.
Road Rage Turns Nasty in Hanley
The violent attack unfolded on 23 October 2024 inside a car in Hanley. Nyathi was with two other men, including the victim, a man in his 40s. An argument quickly escalated and Nyathi stabbed the victim in the cheek.

The victim fled the car, dropping his phone and £180. He rushed to a nearby petrol station on Town Road in Hanley to get help.
Burnt-Out Car Clue Helps Police Crack Case
The car was later discovered burnt out in Sneyd Green, sparking a police investigation. Nyathi was arrested and, despite initially staying silent, admitted to the stabbing in court.
“Despite Nyathi initially refusing to tell us what happened, our investigation identified him as the man responsible for this spontaneous and violent attack,” said Detective Constable Prince Affui of CID North.
