Southport Man Arrested After Bus Stop Scare

Merseyside Police arrested a 34-year-old Southport man following a tense incident at a Cambridge Road bus stop on Monday afternoon, 20 October.

Bus Stop Drama Unfolds on Cambridge Road

Just after 3.35pm, officers were called to Cambridge Road after reports that a man had approached a woman and her young daughter waiting for a bus. The woman quickly shielded her child as the man moved closer.

Police detained the man on suspicion of attempted kidnap. He has since been released on bail while investigations continue.

Police Urge Calm Amid Online Speculation

Officers have interviewed witnesses, reviewed CCTV footage, and conducted forensic checks to unravel the incident.

Detective Inspector Assures Public

“We are conducting extensive enquiries and talking to both parties to understand exactly what happened. At this stage, we don’t believe the man spoke to the woman or child as he approached. No witnesses have confirmed any physical contact or any risk to the community.”
