Man Charged with Terrorism Offences Following Counter-Terrorism Investigation

A 59-year-old man has been charged with multiple terrorism offences following an extensive investigation by the Metropolitan Police Counter Terrorism Command.

Charges

Paul Martin, of Croydon, faces the following charges:

  • Encouragement of terrorism under Section 1 of the Terrorism Act 2006
  • Possession of articles for the purposes of terrorism under Section 57 of the Terrorism Act 2000
  • Possession of a weapon capable of discharging a noxious substance or other thing (stun gun) under Section 5(1)(b) of the Firearms Act 1968

Court Appearance

Martin is scheduled to appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, 14 January 2025, after being charged via postal requisition.

Background

Martin was initially arrested in south London on 28 September 2021 during a Counter Terrorism operation. Following his arrest, he was released under investigation, allowing authorities to conduct further inquiries.

The charges were announced as part of ongoing efforts to ensure public safety and combat terrorism.
