Man Extradited to Face Court in Connection with Islington Double Murder

 

A 21-year-old man has been extradited from Kosovo to face charges related to a double murder that occurred in Islington. Lorik Lupqi, born on September 22, 2003, has been charged with the murders of 15-year-old Leonardo Reid and 23-year-old Klevi Shekaj, who were fatally stabbed on Elthorne Road around 11:30 p.m. on Thursday, June 29, 2023. Lupqi is also charged with the attempted murder of another man injured in the same incident.

Following a coordinated effort between the Metropolitan Police, Kosovan authorities, the National Crime Agency (NCA), and the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS), Lupqi was extradited and is set to appear at Willesden Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday, November 13.

Four other men have already been charged in connection with this investigation and remain in custody. They are:

  • Jason Furtado, 26, of Halton Road, Islington, N1, was charged with two counts of murder, attempted murder, and possession of an offensive weapon.
  • Abel Chunda, 27, of Highgate Hill, N19, was charged with two counts of murder, one count of attempted murder, and possession of an offensive weapon.
  • Eden Clark, 29, of Huddleston Road, N7, was charged with two counts of murder, one count of attempted murder, and possession of an offensive weapon.
  • Xavier Poponne, 21, of Halton Road, Islington, N1, was charged with two counts of murder, one count of attempted murder, and two counts of possession with intent to supply Class A drugs. Poponne was formally charged on May 1, 2024.

A trial date for the case has been scheduled for March 17, 2025. The investigation remains ongoing as authorities prepare for court proceedings.
