Man Pleads Guilty to Murdering Partner in Bexley Home

A man has pleaded guilty to the murder of his partner, who was found stabbed to death in their home earlier this year. Leila Young, 33, was discovered with stab injuries to her head and neck at her residence on Penhill Road just after 4 PM on January 16. Despite being rushed to the hospital, she succumbed to her injuries a week later, on January 23.

Tony Curant, also 33, was arrested on January 20 in connection with the incident. On Friday, June 21, he appeared at Woolwich Crown Court and pleaded guilty to Leila’s murder, according to the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS). Curant now faces a mandatory life sentence, with the minimum term to be determined at a sentencing hearing scheduled for August.

The tragic event has left the local community in mourning. Floral tributes, candles, and handwritten notes have been placed at the site of the incident on Penhill Road. One note expressed deep sorrow, stating, “So heartbreaking. I am so sorry this has happened to you. Sleep tight and may you rest in peace.” Another tribute honoured Leila’s memory, saying, “Leila, you will always be remembered for the loving, brilliant mum you are. We will never forget you.”

As the community grieves, the upcoming sentencing hearing will determine the minimum term of Curant’s life sentence, providing a measure of justice for Leila and her loved ones.
