Tony Curant, also 33, was arrested on January 20 in connection with the brutal attack. On June 21, he appeared at Woolwich Crown Court and pleaded guilty to Leila’s murder, the Crown Prosecution Service confirmed.
Curant now faces a mandatory life sentence. The minimum term he will serve before parole is decided at a sentencing hearing scheduled for August.
Community in Mourning as Tributes Pour In
Leila’s shocking death has left her local community devastated. Floral tributes, candles, and heartfelt notes have been left at the Penhill Road scene.
“So heartbreaking. I am so sorry this has happened to you. Sleep tight and may you rest in peace,” one message read.
Another touched on Leila’s loving nature: “Leila, you will always be remembered for the loving, brilliant mum you are. We will never forget you.”
Sentencing Hearing Will Set Minimum Jail Term
As the family and friends continue to grieve, justice edges closer. Curant’s sentencing hearing in August will set the minimum term of his life sentence, marking a crucial step for Leila’s loved ones seeking closure.
