Police Appeal for Witnesses Following Serious Car Crash in Poole

On Monday, January 1, 2024, a pedestrian suffered severe injuries after colliding with a vehicle on Hyde Road in Gorton, Manchester. The incident occurred at approximately 16:55 GMT on the A57, prompting a swift response from emergency services.

At the scene, a 62-year-old man received immediate medical attention for the serious injuries he sustained and was subsequently transported to the hospital for further treatment. An 81-year-old man was arrested at the location on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the pedestrian was in the process of crossing Hyde Road towards Hyde, spanning two lanes, and had reached the central dividing line when a Vauxhall Corsa, traveling in the same direction, collided with him. Following the collision, the vehicle briefly continued driving before returning to the scene, located on the opposite side of the carriageway.

The Greater Manchester Police’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit (SCIU) is now reaching out to potential witnesses who may have observed the incident as it unfolded. They are especially interested in speaking with individuals who possess dash-cam footage or mobile phone videos captured in the moments leading up to the collision.

Authorities are urging anyone with information to get in touch with the police at 0161 856 4741, quoting reference number 2959 of 01/01/2024.
