Police Officer Injured in Fireworks Attack in Belle Vale

A police officer was injured while responding to reports of youths causing damage and setting off fireworks in Belle Vale Park on Wednesday evening. The incident occurred at around 6:35 pm when a group of youths confronted the officers, with one individual, dressed in black and masked, firing rockets at them. The officer was struck, resulting in hearing loss, a laceration to the ear, and head injuries. He was taken to the hospital for evaluation.

Detective Inspector Neil Dillon condemned the “disgraceful” act, noting the potential for more severe consequences. Superintendent Dawn McNally assured the public that Merseyside Police are treating the matter seriously and supporting the injured officer. The force plans to maintain a high-visibility presence and use stop-and-search powers to curb similar incidents during Halloween and Bonfire Night.

Merseyside Police urges anyone with information about the Belle Vale Park incident to come forward or contact Crimestoppers.
