Cop Hurt in Firework Attack at Belle Vale Park
A police officer was injured after youths went rogue, causing damage and setting off fireworks in Belle Vale Park on Wednesday evening.
Masked Youth Launches Rockets at Police
The trouble kicked off around 6:35 pm when officers were confronted by a group of youths. One, dressed all in black and wearing a mask, fired rockets directly at the police. The officer took a hit that led to hearing loss, a cut on the ear, and head injuries. He was rushed to hospital for treatment.
Police Slam Attack and Vow Crackdown
Detective Inspector Neil Dillon slammed the attack as “disgraceful” and warned it could have been much worse. Superintendent Dawn McNally reassured the public that Merseyside Police are taking the incident seriously and backing the injured officer.
The force plans high-visibility patrols and will ramp up stop-and-search operations to nip similar chaos in the bud during Halloween and Bonfire Night.
