Teen Charged After Two Knives Found During Stop-and-Search in Ilford

A 16-year-old boy has been charged with possession of an offensive weapon after police recovered two knives during a stop-and-search on Prior Road in Ilford.

The search was carried out by Metropolitan Police officers at around 4pm on Sunday, 6 July, during a proactive patrol. Officers stopped two teenage boys, aged 14 and 16, after observing suspicious behaviour.


Knives Recovered at the Scene

Police seized a kitchen knife and a serrated hunting knife stored alongside a leather sheath, as shown in an image released by the force.

Both teenagers were arrested on suspicion of possession of an offensive weapon. The 14-year-old was later released without charge.


Court Date Set

The 16-year-old suspect has since been charged and is expected to appear at Barkingside Magistrates’ Court on Monday, 14 July.

A Met Police spokesperson said:
“On Sunday, 6 July at around 16:00hrs, local officers stopped and searched two boys while out on a proactive patrol on Prior Road, Ilford.
Two knives were found on one of the boys and seized by police.
The 16-year-old was charged the following day.”

The operation is part of the Met’s ongoing efforts to tackle knife crime across London boroughs through high-visibility patrols, community engagement, and intelligence-led stop-and-search.
