The identity of the teenager who fatally stabbed 15-year-old Elianne Andam in Croydon last year has been revealed for the first time. Hassan Sentamu was charged with Elianne’s murder, but reporting restrictions prevented the public disclosure of his name until Friday, September 6, when he turned 18.
Elianne was on her way to school on September 27, 2023, when she was attacked in Wellesley Road at around 8:30 am. Sentamu has admitted to being the person who inflicted the fatal knife wound, though he has denied murder.
During a hearing at the Old Bailey in March, Sentamu pleaded “Not guilty of murder but guilty of manslaughter.”
Elianne was a Year 11 pupil at Old Palace of John Whitgift School. Her family, heartbroken by the tragedy, shared a heartfelt statement:
“We as a family are struggling to comprehend this painful tragedy that has happened to our beautiful daughter and beloved sister Elianne. Our hearts are broken. Elianne was a beautiful person inside and out who loved Jesus. She was intelligent, thoughtful, kind, and had a bright future ahead.”
They requested that people keep Elianne and their family in their thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.
Sentamu, from Croydon, is set to stand trial for murder in November.
