Teen Charged After Violent Canterbury Robbery
A brutal early morning attack in Canterbury’s city centre has landed a 17-year-old in custody. The teenager is accused of threatening a man with a knife, stealing his phone, and hurling glass bottles at him, leaving the victim injured.
Knifepoint Robbery Turns Violent
At around 3.45am on Saturday, 22 February 2020, a man in his 30s was walking through The Precincts when a suspect allegedly threatened him with a knife and snatched his mobile phone. Moments later, the victim was attacked again, with glass bottles thrown at his head and face, causing injuries serious enough to require hospital treatment.
Swift Arrest After Cathedral Security Steps In
Just 30 minutes later, at 4.15am, security staff at Canterbury Cathedral spotted and detained the suspect. Kent Police took him into custody and seized a knife.
Charged and Remanded
- 17-year-old boy from Margate charged with robbery
- Causing grievous bodily harm with intent
- Possessing a knife in public
- Criminal damage
The teen has been remanded in custody and is set to appear at Margate Magistrates’ Court on Monday, 24 February.
