Crime Squad Locks Up Thieves for 48 Years in One Month

The Chief Constable’s Crime Squad smashed crime in August 2021, locking up offenders for a whopping 48 years and two months. The team, mainly targeting burglars and robbers, also made 20 arrests and got green lights for 78 new charges during the same period.

Dawn Raids and Knife Crime: Offenders Caught Cold

Detective Chief Inspector Matt Talboys, boss of the squad, said: “These results have taken dangerous criminals off the streets and made our communities safer.” Many crooks think they can get away with crimes by wielding weapons or striking when victims are at their most vulnerable – like breaking in at night.

Talboys added: “We’re ready to go toe-to-toe with offenders, using warrants to crash through doors and arrest them when they least expect it. We’ll keep using every power we’ve got to make sure robust action is taken.”

High-Profile Jails: Knives, Burglaries, and Fraud

  • Three knife-wielding robbers terrorising Dover and Aylesham were jailed for a combined 17 years and nine months.
  • A man caught red-handed stealing computers and cash in East Cliff was nailed within hours thanks to a sharp-eyed PCSO recognising him on CCTV. He got two years and three months.
  • An organised thief who targeted tobacco shopkeepers in Gillingham and Rochester was locked up for two years and three months; his co-conspirators await sentencing.
  • A high-value burglar who stole electrical goods worth £75,000 from Tunbridge Wells and Ashford shops was sentenced to 27 months behind bars.

Ongoing Crackdowns and Future Court Dates

The Crime Squad isn’t resting. They recently nabbed two Thanet women accused of conspiring to burgle homes for medication, currently in custody awaiting Canterbury Crown Court in September.

Dawn raids in Dagenham, Essex, led to the arrest of two men and a teenager linked to car key burglaries around Strood, Wainscott, and Maidstone. One is remanded for court while investigations continue.

Knife-point robbery suspects—including one accused of attacking a Chatham taxi driver and a thief targeting a woman at a Leysdown arcade—have been charged and remanded too.

Crime Squad’s Message: Crime Doesn’t Pay

“Since the start of the year, offenders have been locked away for some 240 years,” said DCI Talboys. “We’re making Kent a hostile place for criminals. Anyone thinking of pulling a fast one should take note—our team will come after you and make sure you face justice.”

For readers spotting suspicious behaviour, DCI Talboys urges the public to report it. The crackdown is relentless, and the message is clear: Kent won’t tolerate crime.
