Bicycle Smashes Into M9 Windscreen – 60-Year-Old Driver Hurt

Bike Flies Off Opposite Carriageway

Chaos erupted on the M9 northbound between junctions one and two in West Lothian at around 5.50pm on Friday, 3 September. A loose bicycle smashed into the windscreen of a white Ford Focus. Authorities believe the bike came loose from a vehicle travelling on the opposite side of the motorway.

Driver Hurt But Lucky to Escape Worse

The female driver, aged 60, managed to pull over safely onto the hard shoulder. She was taken to St John’s Hospital in Livingston with minor injuries. Remarkably, nobody was seriously hurt despite the bizarre attack from the rogue bike.

Police Seek Public Help to Track Down Culprit

The bike has been described as a Kona Kula 2-9 pedal cycle with a 16-inch light blue and white frame.

Sergeant Jennifer Forbes of Police Scotland’s Road Policing Unit warned: “The consequences of this incident could have been far more severe and is only through pure luck that nobody was more seriously injured or worse.”

“It should stand as a stark reminder of the importance of making sure that any load being carried on your vehicle is properly and thoroughly secured.”

Police are hunting for the vehicle that was carrying the bike. They urge witnesses to come forward. If you were near the M9 that afternoon or have dashcam footage, contact police.
