Amanda ‘Mandi’ McClean Found Guilty of Sexting Teen Girl
Amanda ‘Mandi’ McClean, 50, used a burner phone to send shocking messages to a 14-year-old schoolgirl, telling her she “couldn’t wait to get at” her and that she was “horny as f***” before being caught by teachers. The Newry Crown Court jury didn’t hesitate, convicting McClean on all six counts after just 40 minutes of deliberation.
Damning Messages Exposed
McClean, also known as Browne, appeared stone-faced as the jury read out their unanimous guilty verdicts. The court heard how she communicated sexually explicit texts to the underage girl, including graphic references to kissing, licking, and orgasm. Prosecutor Geraldine McCullough told the jury the messages showed clear evidence of grooming and a sexual relationship conducted via texting.
“The person sending the messages indicated the relationship was inappropriate but still ended the text saying ‘I love you’,” said McCullough. She added, “I can’t wait to get at you properly. It’s going to be mind-blowing. I’m horny as f***.”
Defence Claims No Direct Evidence
McClean denied sending the messages during police interviews, but the jury heard the burner phone’s SIM card was linked to her home internet address. Her defence lawyer Seamus Lannon argued there was no direct proof McClean sent the texts and criticised the police for not investigating other suspects. Despite this, McClean chose not to give evidence, letting her silence speak volumes.
Judge Warns of Immediate Custody
Judge Gordon Kerr QC granted McClean bail but added strict conditions — she must have no contact with any child except the disabled 12-year-old she cares for. He adjourned sentencing until April 29, warning McClean that an immediate custodial sentence was likely.
“You have a caring responsibility and I strongly advise you to make alternative arrangements for the care of the child,” the judge said. “The fact you are released on bail is no indication of the ultimate sentence.”
