Two Arrested as 10,000 Police Drug Driving Cases Thrown into Doubt

Two males, aged 37 and 41, have been arrested and a further five interviewed by police under caution, after a drug driving conviction in Havant has been overturned. The historic case, dating back to December 2015 in Barncroft Way, was withdrawn by prosecutors at Portsmouth Magistrates’ Court, with the 27-year-old accused, who had been convicted of drug-driving at the time, now free to walk from court with his conviction quashed. Local police are now set to review 456 convictions, with a further 10,000 nationwide examined, following an investigation into ‘irregularities’ with the police’s own foresnic specialists, Randox Testing Services. A Hampshire Constabulary spokesman said, “We can confirm we have 456 cases being reviewed to determine whether they have been affected by the quality failure. “We are working closely with the national co-ordination team to prioritise cases and carry our further re-testing to establish whether the results are correct. We are also working with the Crown Prosecution Service to review any potentially affected cases.
