A father who tragically lost his life in a devastating gas explosion in Worksop has been named as David Howard, aged 53.

Local councillor Mike Introna, who grew up on John Street, expressed his sorrow:
“So sad to hear of the fatality and injuries following the gas explosion. Sincerest condolences to the family and friends of the gentleman.”
Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service also extended their condolences, stating:
“Despite the best efforts of the responding emergency service personnel, he died at the scene. We send our sincere condolences to his family and friends.”
Community Displaced and Search Ongoing
About 20 residents were forced to take refuge at Crown Place Community Centre, while others stayed with friends and family. Specialist search teams and structural engineers remained on site into Sunday to ensure the area was safe and to account for all residents.
Chief Inspector Neil Humphris of Nottinghamshire Police said:
“This is an extremely serious incident that has led to a man’s untimely death. I have no doubt that this incident will have come as a shock to the community in Worksop.”
Police Warning and Ongoing Investigation
Authorities have asked the public to avoid flying drones over the scene, warning that doing so without permission is a criminal offence. The cause of the explosion is still under investigation, with gas infrastructure experts and structural engineers assisting.
Emergency services continue to urge patience as cordons remain in place and residents face disruption in the aftermath of the tragedy.
Remembering David Howard
David’s daughters and loved ones now face an unimaginable loss. Community members have praised his character and kindness, describing him as someone who always showed “so much respect.”
As Worksop mourns the loss of one of its own, efforts continue to bring answers and support to a community left shaken by this catastrophic incident.
Anyone with information that could assist the investigation is urged to contact Nottinghamshire Police on 101, quoting incident 602 of April 12.
