Worksop Dad Killed in Horror Gas Blast

Tragic Death of David Howard, 53

A father has lost his life in a shocking gas explosion that ripped through his terraced home in Worksop. David Howard, 53, was pulled from the rubble on John Street after the blast struck on the evening of Saturday, April 12.

Emergency crews rushed to the scene at 7.39pm, declaring a major incident after surrounding homes suffered damage and locals were rocked by the force of the explosion.

Investigation Underway as Community Mourns

Detective Chief Inspector Ruby Burrow confirmed David’s identity and asked the public to respect the family’s privacy at this heartbreaking time.

“He has lost his life in truly tragic circumstances,” said DCI Burrow. “Our investigation to establish exactly what happened is ongoing, and we are working hard to find the answers his family needs.”

She urged against online speculation as police continue inquiries.

Neighbours Devastated as Home Is Destroyed

The explosion obliterated David’s home and caused major damage to nearby houses, with roofs collapsing and debris scattered across the street. Emergency crews were seen navigating the wreckage amid piles of bricks and shattered windows.

Local councillor Mike Introna, who grew up on John Street, expressed his sorrow:

“So sad to hear of the fatality and injuries following the gas explosion. Sincerest condolences to the family and friends of the gentleman.”

Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service added:

“Despite the best efforts of the responding emergency service personnel, he died at the scene. We send our sincere condolences to his family and friends.”

Community Evacuated, Search Continues

About 20 neighbours were forced to evacuate and took refuge at Crown Place Community Centre, while others stayed with friends or family. Search teams and structural engineers remained on site into Sunday to secure the area and check for any additional victims.

Chief Inspector Neil Humphris of Nottinghamshire Police said:

“This is an extremely serious incident that has led to a man’s untimely death. I have no doubt that this incident will have come as a shock to the community in Worksop.”

Police Issue Warning and Seek Information

Authorities warned against flying drones over the scene, stressing that unauthorised drone use is a criminal offence. The cause of the explosion remains under investigation, with gas experts and structural engineers assisting police.

Residents face ongoing disruption as cordons remain in place while investigators work.
