Man punched in Southampton park attack – police hunt witnesses!

Police are on the lookout after a 55-year-old man was viciously attacked in East Park, Southampton, on Sunday, June 5.

Attack in broad daylight

The victim was walking through the park between 6.30pm and 7pm when he was suddenly surrounded by a gang of four. Without warning, one of the group punched him, leaving the man with a suspected fractured cheekbone.

Hospital treatment and suspect arrested

The injured man was rushed to Southampton General Hospital for treatment before being discharged. Meanwhile, police have arrested a 20-year-old Southampton man connected to the assault. He is currently on bail until July 14 as enquiries continue.

Police appeal for witnesses

Officers want to hear from anyone who was in East Park at the time or who noticed anything suspicious. Witnesses are urged to contact PC Gerry Eveleigh from the Western Investigation Team at Southampton Central Police Station by calling 101. Alternatively, you can report information anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
