The family of Clive Porter, 63, from Tring, Hertfordshire, have paid tribute after his tragic death following an incident on the Grand Union Canal in Aylesbury on Monday (26 April).

Ex-Police Officer Remembered as Caring and Committed

Clive Porter dedicated over 30 years to Hertfordshire Constabulary before joining the Canal and River Trust. Loved as a husband, dad, and grandad, he was known for his calm, quiet nature and passion for serving the community.

“Clive Porter was a much loved husband, dad and grandad. He was a quiet calm and caring person, who served the community as a police officer for over 30 years before joining the Canal and River Trust. He was loved and respected by all who met him.”

Passionate About People and Environment

Clive believed deeply in ‘policing by the people, for the people’ and had a love for outdoor work, connecting with those around him while caring for the environment.

“Clive had a passion for working outdoors and meeting people. He believed in caring for people and the environment through the principle of policing by the people for the people.”

The family expressed gratitude to Thames Valley Police’s investigation team, especially family liaison officers DC James Armitage and DC Lynda Stearman. They have also been touched by the outpouring of condolences.
