Ten homes in Southampton have been burgled over the weekend
Entry has been gained via accessible windows, unlocked doors and keys have been ‘fished’ for through letterboxes. Cars have then been stolen as well as valuables from inside the house. Ten homes in Southampton have been burgled and one in West End between Friday 13 July and Sunday 15 July. Police have also received a number of similar incidents occurring elsewhere in Southampton and beyond which we are reviewing. Yesterday, response officers arrested two 16-year-old boys on suspicion of burglary. They remain in police custody at this time. Police would like to reiterate our advice from the beginning of July after 15 burglaries where car keys and vehicles had been stolen in the Bitterne area. Police know it’s really warm weather, but it’s important to consider whether you are leaving your home vulnerable to burglary. Police advise people to keep ground floor and other accessible windows closed overnight. You should also make sure your doors are properly locked with the key, rather than just pulling up the handle. Think about putting your house and car keys well away from windows and doors, and don’t leave them in the lock. Please report any suspicious incidents to the police If you have any information, please contact Hampshire Constabulary on 101.
